The Novant Health Charlotte Marathon is an annual race that takes place in Charlotte, NC every November. The event features five different races: the marathon, half-marathon, marathon relay, 5K, and kid’s 1-mile run.
Runners experience the sights and sounds of the Southeast’s fastest growing city, including the Queen City’s signature tree lined streets, historic landmarks, major sporting venues and the most eclectic neighborhood parties.
The race finishes in the heart of Uptown Charlotte at Romare Bearden Park. With entertainment along the course, major headliners at the finish line festival, and five distance options, it’s a race for all runners!
FROM THUNDER ROAD TO CHARLOTTE MARATHON
From its start in 2005 to 2015, the Novant Health Charlotte Marathon was called the Thunder Road Marathon. In January 2016, the marathon rebranded and was renamed. It’s always been Charlotte’s hometown marathon – the rebrand gave the name to prove it. Watch the video below and read more about the rebrand here.
Since 2013, the Novant Health Charlotte Marathon has donated $89,000 to Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital Child Life Program. The donation helps support patient programming items and supplies to help make the hospital feel a little more like home to the children staying there – with everything from arts and crafts to video games and movies, wagons and ride-on toys.
Each year, the Novant Health Charlotte Marathon also supports 35-40 different Boy Scout troops, high school organizations and non-profit organizations by donating over $21,000 to them through the volunteer program, cheer station contest and ambassador program.
