Program
18 WEEK – Starts
8/10
Hal Higdon is ready to help you train for Charlotte's Thunder
Road Marathon! Higdon, the best-selling author of Marathon:

to Runner’s World magazine,
estimates that he has helped more than a quarter million
runners run their best races.
Whether novice, intermediate
or advanced runner, Higdon has designed marathon, 1/2 marathon,
and 5k training programs to get you to the finish line in
a Personal Best time. Higdon’s 8 to 18 week interactive

Timing and Scoring:
Timing
and scoring will be done with ChampionChip Technology.
Each runner must pick up his or her chip at the Thunder
Road Marathon Health & Wellness Expo presented by Presbyterian
Orthopaedic Hospital on Thursday, December 9th or Friday,
December 10th. Runners
who do not turn in their chips at the conclusion of their
race will be assessed a $10 fee. (The event has the right
to charge your credit card for this fee.)
Timing mats will be located at the start,
10K mark, 13.1 mile mark, 20 mile mark and the finish.
Runners who do not register a split time at one of the
checkpoints will be subject to disqualification.
Pit Stops
Pit Stops (water stops) will be available at the following
places along the course:
Mile 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 23.5,
and 25.
CLIF SHOT BLOKS will be provided at mile markers 16
and 20.
And perhaps for some, most importantly, portable restrooms
will be stationed at the water stations, about every
two miles along the course.

Pace Teams
Endurance Magazine Pace Teams
Charlotte’s Thunder Road Marathon will offer Endurance Magazine Pace Teams to help you run your best marathon! Pace Teams are available at the following times: 3:00, 3:15, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45, and 5:00.

Participating in a Pace Team is FREE
and open to all runners. Endurance Magazine Pace
Team leaders will run even splits to get you to the finish
at your goal time. Simply
sign up at the Endurance Magazine Pace Team booth at the Thunder
Road Marathon Health & Wellness Expo. On
race day, go to the start area 15 - 25 minutes early to
find your team and meet your Pace Team leaders.
If you begin to struggle . . .
Should you feel like you cannot finish or need assistance, there will be a sag wagon availble to assist you.
There will be trained medical personnel available to aid runners who need attention.

Time Limits
The marathon has a 6-hour time limit and the Amica Insurance Half Marathon has a 3 hour time limit. Runners who cannot maintain a 13:45 per mile pace will be asked to leave the course for their own safety.
Pit Stops will close and volunteers and police officers at intersections will not be available to participants who fall below the 13:45 per mile pace. This will be strictly enforced.

Bag Check
Bag check is available for Marathoners
and Half Marathoners. More information to come on
Baggage Check closer to race day.
